Venice Beach, Southern California, and San Diego

Venice Beach hotels and vacationI just got back from a trip to Southern California. I stayed close to Venice Beach. First I flew into San Diego and stayed in a beautiful Marriott overlooking the great San Diego Marina. I hate at Hard Rock which is a tradition. Then I drove to Los Angeles and then to my hotel at Marriott. I was upgraded to a suite due to my rewards card and all the times I have stayed at Marriott. The concierge service was pretty good.

If you are thinking of a trip to Southern California, Venice is the famous muscle beach. It is fun for a day trip and definitely the hotel was beautiful and within walking distance.

Marina del Rey

Marina del Rey beach boats Venice beachMarina del Rey boasts the best range of harbor-front accommodations in Los Angeles.

On the west side of Los Angeles, between the city and the Pacific Ocean and nestled between Playa del Rey and Venice Beach, Marina del Rey is built around the largest small-boat harbor on the west coast. Boaters have loved the Marina since it was born, and over the years it has also developed a devoted following among non-aquatic travelers who discovered for themselves its serenity, its romantic harbor and sunset views, and its proximity to L.A.’s best clubs, restaurants, shopping and other attractions on the Westside.

Marina del Rey is getting hot - and for all the right reasons.

Hip, active Angelenos have discovered the community’s newly energized and innovative hotels, restaurants, shopping, and recreational opportunities – and those places are fast becoming Westside hot spots. This contemporary, creative environment is re-defining Southern California cool.

Surrounded on three sides by Los Angeles, four miles north of Los Angeles International Airport and walking distance to Venice Beach, Marina del Rey combines the sophistication of a cutting-edge city with the serenity of a luxurious island. You just have more space here, with wide, uncrowded sidewalks, beach and harbor walkways and recreational paths and trails. You will get more value for your travel dollar here – as most hotels are right on the water, with romantic sunset views of thousands of boats in a calm harbor. (more…)
